NOTICE oF PRIVACY PRACTICES

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires group health plans to protect the privacy of health information. The Benefits Office is required to provide you with a notice related to protections and privileges assured by this federal law when you are initially enrolled in a group health plan. Thereafter, health plans are required to issue a reminder to participants of the availability of the plan’s Notice of Privacy Practices and how to obtain a copy at least once every three years. You are not required to take any action as a result of receiving this notice, and your current benefits are not affected. This notice is being sent for informational purposes to all faculty and staff who are covered under a University of Michigan-sponsored group health plan.
