New fund choices from Fidelity Investments
Beginning July 24, 2009, the Fidelity Select Portfolio of funds will be added as investment options for the University of Michigan Basic Retirement Plan. The Fidelity Select Portfolio was previously available only for the SRA and 457(b).
The Fidelity Select Portfolio consists of sector funds, which invest in stocks of companies in a particular segment of the economy, such as health care or telecommunications. Sector funds offer the potential for growth but carry a significant level of volatility and risk because they are less diversified.
Due to the high risk and volatility of investing with sector funds, individuals should consult with a financial planner or call a Fidelity Retirement Services Representative at 1-800-343-0860 Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to midnight (ET).
